Gilligan’s (no skipper here)

If you ever find yourself driving along Route 12B in Central New York, a stop is required at Gilligan’s Island in Sherburne.

The house specialty, in my humble opinion, are very fine onion rings that come with a thick delicious batter. They alone are worth the stop, and come in three different sized orders.

Gilligan’s also offers good sandwiches, great milk shakes, and many flavors of ice cream. You also can buy ice cream cakes to take with you, depending on how far you’re driving and/or if you’re willing to drive with the windows down in January.

There is seating inside and outside, with picnic tables back on the lawn and some tables alongside this old-style ice cream stand that also offers a drive-through window for those in a hurry.

But slow down, stop in, and enjoy a burger, rings, and a shake. You’ll leave happy as you travel north toward Earlville or south toward Norwich.
