Good news, apparently, on the locally owned classic diner front. It appears that Doc’s Little Gem Diner in Syracuse has been sold, and its new owner hopes to have the city institution up and running again by June 1.
According to this morning’s Syracuse Post-Standard, the new owner is Doug LaLone, manager of Mama Nancy’s diner, which is near the State Fairgrounds. Details need to be worked out, and we all know what that can mean for any positive economic development in CNY, but it looks like this will happen.
The Gem had been a Syracuse landmark for nearly 60 years before closing about a year ago. LaLone has plans to significantly expand the seating capacity while maintaining the key elements of the classic diner car. Read the full article here.
